Abstract

The beginnings of the long poem genre can be traced back to the Euphrates valley. From Mesopotamia it moved on to Egypt, Greece, England, India and other parts of the world and kept flourishing within many geographies and cultures. A study of the long poems from the global literature that came to Urdu language poets and critics reveals that the development of the long poem has been in parallel to the human civilization.
