Abstract
Shahid Ahmed Dehlvi had launched Saqi an Urdu literary magazine in the pre-independence era. With the passage of time the magazine became immensely popular in the literary circles and with it its editor too became a celebrity. But after the creation of Pakistan in 1947, Shahid Ahmed Dehlvi migrated to Pakistan and brought with him the magazine to Karachi from where it was published under the trying circumstances till Shahid Ahmed Dehlvi’s death in 1967. Saqi was known for its editorials penned by its editor, Shahid Ahmed Dehlvi. The articles analyses how the topics and the style of these editorials changed with time, either on the insistence of the readers or with the change of heart of its editor, reflecting the social, political and literary circumstances that forced the change.
