Ghulam Rasool Taus Banahali, the creator of the famous song based on Kashmiri Love: Meray Watan Teri Jannat Main Aayen Gay Ik Din, is an acknowledged and eminent name of Kashmiri poetry. His literary aspects are diverse as he has not only written literary essays but translated Kashmiri folk stories as well. The translation of Kashmiri Rishi Poetry of Nooruddin Rishi of the eighth century AH entitled Rishi Nama stands unique among his literary works. This translation showcasing simplicity of words and thoughts, fluency, and melody renders it a masterpiece thus manifesting what a literary translation should be like. The soul of the original matter of Kashmiri mystic poetry is maintained in this translation focusing instability of the world, piety, austerity, fate and Allah’s will.
