Much has been written about Shibli No'mani and his association with Atiya Fyzee and her sisters. But much of what has been written is clouded by unauthentic accounts, hearsay and misinterpretations. This article researches the family history and ancestral background of Fayzees in detail. Taking into account the previous work on the topic, the article traces the history of Fyzee family's relations with Shibli and tries to clear some misconceptions about the relationship between the ladies of the Fyzee family and Maulana Shibli No'mani, the renowned scholar, author, poet and biographer of Urdu.
