Abstract
Shiekh Fariduddin Ganj Shakar was a Sufi and a holy man. To him are attributed a few verses dubbed as one of the earliest samples of Urdu poetry. He also composed poetry in Punjabi. This article discusses the message of Baba Farid as spread through his poetry which is but a manifestation of his mystic ideology. The article stresses that Baba Farid's ideology brought many Hindus, once considered untouchables by the Brahmins, into the humanistic and universal fold of Islam. Quoting from Baba Farid's Urdu and Punjabi poetry, the article stresses that the spread of Islam in the subcontinent revolutionised the caste system treating everyone at par and this revolution was brought about through Sufi ideology spearheaded by Baba Farid.
