Abstract
Hussain Bin Mansoor Hallaj is known world over for his views that brought about his death sentence. Some of the religious scholars of the day thought Hallaj's ideas were blasphemous and it is said that Hallaj was put to death on their orders. But Sufi poets of different languages are much impressed by Hallaj and they not only show love and respect for Hallaj but also seem quite impressed with his views. This has also led some of the Sufis to be inspired by Hallaj's idea of 'ishq' (extreme love, especially love of God) while composing their own poetry. This paper finds certain familiarities between Hallaj's idea of 'ishq' and that of Sachchal Sarmast's views, as expressed in Sachchal's poetry written mainly in Seraiki and Sindhi languages.
