Abstract

Imam Bakhsh Sehbai was a scholar, poet and researcher and was mercilessly killed by the British during the 1857 war of freedom. Sehbai was a renowned scholar and was respected for his work. Not much has been written about his life, works and his death, though some of his works were acknowledged as remarkable and are still valued. This article gives his biographical details as well as the details about his works. Sehbai’s death was tragic and different accounts of his death are found in different books and there have been some inaccuracies too. This article has also removed some of the incorrect accounts regarding Sehbai. With references and endnotes, this article increases our understanding of Sehbai.
