Abstract
Mohsin Kakorvi (1826-1905) was a poet of Urdu who in later life devoted his works solely for writing Naat, or poetry praising Prophet Muhammad, Peace Be Upon Him. One of his qaseedas, or panegyric odes, dedicated to the praise of Prophet Muhammad gained unprecedented kudos and is considered one of the most quoted and talked-about pieces of Naat poetry in Urdu. This article, while analysing it in the light of literary criticism on it by Muhammad Hasan Askari, analyses its literary and poetic merits. The writer has taken special care to appraise the reader about some literary aspects and especially the rhetorical aspects that this qaseeda offers. The paper also takes into account the lexicographic peculiarities.
