Abstract
The purpose of an editorial cartoon is not only to amuse the reader but also to aware them with the current events and issues. Unlike the newspaper itself, editorial cartoons are something which an uneducated person can also understand. Therefore, it commands a great importance. The study aims to analyze the cartoons published in an Urdu weekly titled Oudh Punch, first published from Lucknow, British India in 1877. This weekly was the first in Urdu to publish editorial cartoons. Selected cartoons from the Oudh Punch were analyzed in both qualitative and quantitative manner, for quantitative analysis these cartoons were analyzed in five different aspects. Convenience Sampling technique and Nominal level of measurement were used under the theoretical framework of Agenda setting Theory.
