Abstract
The tradition of Urdu poetry in Balochistan was nurtured in the shadow of northern and southern Hindustan. Until a decade of the twentieth century, the impacts of contemporary inclinations and movements, especially that of the Progressive Movement, on the Urdu poetry of Balochistan can be identified clearly. The poets belonging to the Progressive Movement unified the Balochs against exploitation and injustice. Representing the political and social issues besides the civilization of Balochistan, these poets interpreted the public sentiments in their works at the local and international levels. They had been presenting their thoughts and theories in the form of verses against the colonialism before the partition and their exploitation and governance on the basis of injustice after the divide. In this paper, the impacts of the Progressive Movement on the Urdu poetry of Balochistan have been analysed at the research level.
