Abstract

Gérard Gennette is among the famous theorists of narration. He elucidated the Theory of Narration in his book “Narrative Discourse”. In this book he expounds story, diazeuctic/discourse and narrative act in narration. According to Gennette, narrative act is the backbone of a story. In a text, narration is narrated and acted as well and narrator is one who narrates story. Historical, cultural, social, political,  psychological and philosophical aspects are the backdrop of a story. Selection of the expression for the specific conduct impacts the construction of a story.

Narrator is the manoeuvring tool which an author choose intentionally. Plato has propounded that mimicry and storytelling are the framework ofa story. Henry James is also a co-thinker of Plato. Two types of narrator i.e. homodigetic andheterodigetic act hand in hand to fabricate the associative meaning and make a text more eloquent. In this article, narrators of the selected Urdu novels are retrieved.
