Abstract
The present paper, titled Two Personalities, One Mission: Ansari, Abbasi, and the Urdu Language offers a critical and research-oriented study of the collective struggle of Hayatullah Ansari and Qazi Adeel Abbasi for the preservation, promotion, and restoration of the cultural prestige of the Urdu language. The paper highlights the fact that Urdu has historically represented the composite culture, shared heritage, and national unity of the Indian subcontinent. However, after Independence, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, the language became a victim of linguistic and political prejudice. In such circumstances, both Hayatullah Ansari and Qazi Adeel Abbasi played an active role on multiple fronts to secure a legitimate status for Urdu. Hayatullah Ansari advocated for the rights of Urdu through journalism, parliamentary debates, public awareness campaigns, and educational movements. Qazi Adeel Abbasi, on the other hand, made significant contributions through the establishment of educational institutions, the Deeni Taleemi Council, signature campaigns, and mass-level movements aimed at the survival and propagation of Urdu. The paper concludes that despite certain differences in their approaches and strategies, both personalities shared the common objective of strengthening Urdu as a composite national and cultural language.
