Abstract

Grammar of a language can be written in different ways. One is tracing the history of grammar of a language written chronologically. The other is according to the taxonomy of the grammar. This paper traces the history of writing Urdu grammar in two different ways, first according their historical sequence and then according to the type of grammar. It describes the earliest Urdu grammars written by the European scholars in European languages, the earliest Urdu grammars written in Persian and earliest Urdu grammars written in Urdu. It also introduces the kind of grammars and traces the books of Urdu grammar written according to different classifications of grammar.
