Lal Shahbaz Qalandar is one of the most well-known Sufis of Pakistan. His shrine at Sehwan Sharif (Sindh) is thronged by devotees during the annual congregations and different songs are sung to pay homage to him. But Qalandar was a great Persian poet as well. In his Persian poetry there are some recurrent themes. This paper analyses those themes and finds some interesting motifs in Qalandar's poetry, especially when seen against his disagreement with some of his contemporaries and his popularity amongst the general public. This popularity still goes on.
