The research and critical review of Mir Taqi Mir's Salam and Marasi with eference to poetic metre (Prosody)
Keywords
This paper focusses the research and critical review of poetic metre of Mir Taqi Mir's published 41 Salams and Marasi.
The art of Marsia has passed through various stages of evolution traveling from Persia to South India, from South India to Delhi and from Delhi to Lucknow.
It is said that the succeeding poets of Lucknow have perfected this genre. However, the credit of bringing this art to light in Lucknow goes to Dehlavi poets, especially Mir and Sauda.
According to the research, Mir wrote 41 Salams and Marasi during his stay in Lucknow, which were not included in the initial published Kuliyat. The later published Kuliyats are the first to include them in the edited Kuliyat of Ibadat Barelvi.
Ibadat Barelvi and Kalb-e-Ali Khan Faiq's Kuliyat were left out by including some Marasi and Salams, which were later compiled and published in 2007 under the auspices of the National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language.
These 41 Salams and Marasi consist of 14 poetic metre, which have been reviewed in detail in this paper.
