Abstract

In this article an attempt has been made to analyze the significance of tradition of couplet which has a long history. It is the most popular genre of Up Bharnish. Actually, couplet in Urdu has come from Hindi language. Just as all genres of speech are bound by certain rules and regulations within the prosody framework. Even Doha is not separated from it. Doha is a two-syllable poem according to the Haitian system, "It is an Urdu qasida, a ghazal or a two-syllable rhyming poem, or in other words it can be called individual". Its two stanzas are called Dul in Hindi Pingal. It is interesting to note that in Urdu only one meter and weight is considered as the weight of couplet. While this is not the case. Actually, according to the rules and regulations which are set in Hindi language for weight of doha, weights of doha can be extracted in Urdu as well. Qadr Bilgrami has mentioned 23 types of couplets. Which are produced by changing the number of Laghu and Guru, as Duha consists of Matrik Chand. Similarly, total 48 Matras are required in Duha. Each genre of poetry has its own artistic significance. Thus, an attempt has been made to analyze it technically. Which will be helpful to understand the weight of Duha to the great extent.
